Stetson

stetson.jpgFounded by John B. Stetson in 1865, Stetson is synonymous with its iconic Western hat despite producing various products that aim to evoke the American West.

Born to a hatmaker in New Jersey, Stetson headed west when his health started to fail. During a hiking trip, Stetson created his first cowboy hat with animal hide. He moved to Pennsylvania to set up his own hat company. A decade after creating his famous “boss of the Plains” hat, Stetson became a household name in the West.

During the 1930s, the company started manufacturing women’s hats. Post-WW2, the appeal of hats began declining. However, after the success of Western movies in the ‘80s, Stetson hats peaked in popularity.
