Initially founded in 1875, Failsworth is a bespoke hat manufacturing company that is now one of the largest headwear companies in the United Kingdom and Europe. Initially, the company name was Maypole Hat Works and eventually became Failsworth Hats Limited in 1940.
During the war, Failsworth reduced production of civilian hats and increased manufacturing of various types of headgear for the armed forces. Post WW2, the company partnered with John B Stetson Company to produce Stetson hats under license. In the ‘50s, Failsworth started retailing in prestigious stores like Harrods and Selfridges and was endorsed by many celebrities. The company made various styles that were popular among teddy boys and mods.
