Coming from a family that had centuries of experience in the Scottish wool trade, John Scott-Nichol was a distinguished World War I veteran who revolutionized the hosiery industry with his unique blend of nylon and wool. In the post-WW2 era, Schott-Nichol socks were widely adopted by teddy boy, mod, skinhead, scooter boy, northern soul, and soul boys youth subcultures. In the 1970s, Schott-Nichol went from being a family business to a privately-owned company.
