Heritage sports brand Sergio Tacchini was founded in 1966 by Italian tennis champion Sergio Tacchini. The eponymous label was known for introducing colour into the otherwise all-white tennis kit, and its recognition grew as it gained partnerships with some of the world's most celebrated tennis players, such as John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, and Martina Navratilova. As well as many sponsorships of tennis players, the brand also sponsored the Italian tennis team at the 1976 Summer Olympic Games held in Montreal, Canada.

As well as many tennis sponsorships, Sergio Tacchini has also been known to sponsor sports such as basketball, cricket, skiing, golf, and formula 1. The brand sponsored Italian basketball player Dino Meneghin of the Olympia Milano team in 1984, as well as Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna in the early 80s, among many others.

In the 1980s, British youth subculture known as the "casuals" emerged from the UK working class and football terrace scene. While the subculture had an unsavoury reputation for violence and hooliganism, it made a huge impact on fashion and culture due to the designer tracksuits and trainers by European sportswear brands such as Sergio Tacchini. You can see examples of this style and culture in films such as Green Street, The Firm and The Business.

In the 80s and 90s in the US, the brand became popular in the emerging culture of hip-hop, as wearing high-end sportswear became a status symbol, with rappers like Notorious B.I.G., Nas, LL Cool J wearing Sergio Tacchini tracksuits.

The brand is still going strong today, with a big reputation both in the fashion and sports world. They still sponsor a number of star athletes, and have done a number of streetwear collaborations. Check out our collection of Sergio Tacchini sportswear here.
