Lotto began in 1973, from the footwear district of Montebelluna in Italy. While Lotto began as a sports shoes company, they quickly expanded to sportswear. In the '80s, Lotto made its name in the football world, with the World Cup champion Dino Zoff of the Italian team wearing Lotto football shoes. They also sponsored a number of tennis athletes, such as Alberto Mancini, Thomas Muster and Jose Luis Clerc, and 1984 Olympic gold shot-putter, Allessandro Andrei. The '90s were an even better time for Lotto's sports reputation, with sponsorships of tennis legends Martina Navratilova and Boris Becker, as well as an A.C. Milan and Croatian national team sponsorship in football.
